Is it time to bin the Competency Framework? Personnel Today reports that they have had their day & are no longer relevant to the business world in the 21st Century.
We don’t necessarily agree with that! Like all tools they have their benefits if they are designed and used well, if they are fit for purpose and if they add value to the organisation.
If they are well constructed, linked to career development, identify progression opportunities and training needs, if they define what the business needs of their employees and if they are presented in a way that engages employees with the business values then they still very much have a place in today’s business in our view.
Making use of technology to make any competency framework accessible and integrated rather than a “bolt on” is essential, and ultimately really quite simple and cost effective to achieve.
So don’t write off the competency framework just yet!
