Long term unemployment (out of work for two years or more) is at the highest it has been since 1997 with over 440,000 people affected. Unsurprising perhaps considering the number of jobs that were shed at the early days of the recession meaning so many people were seekng employment at the same time. Those that weren’t successful initially may have become stuck in the unemployment trap. Interesting and challenging times for those who are recruiting – businesses may be missing out on talented and hard working staff unless they are willing to look beyond recent (un)employment history.
