There has in recent years been some confusion about the employment status of an apprentice in a business, as it seems that legislative changes made in 2012 have not necessarily been communicated very well to employers….unless you are one of our clients of course as we’ve kept up to date ourselves & then informed you!
This article in Personnel Today explains it really well but the summary for those of you with limited time is that apprentices can now be treated like any other employee without any enhanced employment rights just so long the contract you issue meets certain criteria.
