Just as we predicted – after all the furore has died down the Government will not be banning zero hours contracts!
The Queen’s speech in May revealed the Government’s plans to tackle ways in which businesses were abusing zero hours contracts – no mention of banning them then.
And now the Small Business, Enterprise and Employment Bill, published this week on the 25 June will simply ban exclusivity clauses.
Simply put – if you aren’t guaranteeing your staff any set number of hours of work then you can’t require them to work solely for you.
The TUC say that these measures don’t go far enough so we expect this issue will continue to rumble on for some time yet.
