Trying to recruit? Candidate availability is at an all time low according to the Recruitment and Employment Confederation (REC).

This has certainly been the experience for many of our clients over the last few months, with some jobs seeming more difficult to fill than others. Mobile worker and engineering roles have been particularly challenging.

We have the lowest unemployment rate since 2005, and this along with uncertainty about Brexit, the General Election and the economy mean many people are opting to stay put in jobs where they have accrued sufficient service to have full employment rights and maybe there is a case of “better the devil you know”?

So if you need to recruit how are you going to attract the best candidates to your business? What is your employer “brand”, if potential employees search for you what will they find online, if they know people who work for you what will they hear about you, if they attend an interview what impression will they get from you, the work environment, other people and from the job role itself, and if they compare your offer to other employers will it stack up?
