A survey reported in the PA Magazine this month reports that people are not taking a break during their working day and this may be having a negative impact on their productivity as well as their health.

Of those surveyed:

• 23% ate their lunch at their desks or work stations
• 18% didn’t take a lunch break at all
• 36% took less than their allotted time for lunch

Additionally, 41% said they didn’t take permitted tea or recommended screen breaks during the day

28% of people said they felt “resentful” of smokers who took multiple breaks during the day to have a cigarette – we have worked with businesses where this causes significant tensions between smokers and non-smokers.

What happens in your workplace – do you take a break and do you encourage your staff to? Do you notice a difference in people’s productivity depending on whether or not they take a break?
