An Equal Pay Case that has been heard by the Supreme Court has ruled that it is acceptable to compare the pay of workers from different establishments within one local authority.
More than 200 female classroom assistants and nursery nurses have won the right to bring their claim back to an employment tribunal at which they will argue that there should be equal pay between their roles and male workers employed as refuse collectors and groundsmen for the council.
It is predicted that the ultimate ruling in this case will have an impact on Equal Pay Claims in the private sector where an employer operates more than one business.
