We’ve had a few enquiries recently about the Qualifying Period for Unfair Dismissal Claims. This was raised from one year to two years from the 6th April 2012. But ONLY for employees recruited after that date. In any case our advice is always to address issues with new employees sooner rather than later – don’t leave it until the deadline is looming! If you have employed a new recruit and it just isn’t working out even after providing training, a thorough induction and allowing for a period of settling in make a decision to deal with it quickly; it is better for the employee and the business.
