It wouldn’t be a festive Christmas without the inevitable doom mongering HR post about the risks and pitfalls of staff enjoying themselves just a little too much at your festive gathering…so here it is!

All joking aside, there are some points in this article from Personnel Today that are worth taking a moment to consider. Christmas parties, too much booze, an inappropriate “joke”, last minute requests for time off work, winter illnesses and possible snow days (if it ever gets cold this year!) make this a busy time of year for HR advisors!

Perhaps not necessarily 100% directly related to all things festive but a good point is made regarding travel disruption affecting a return to work after the Christmas break. If your employees might be affected by the possible rail strikes (even if it hasn’t affected them so far, but might if they are travelling to see family & friends) have you discussed how a no show at work will be treated?
