The self employed “gig economy” is coming in for yet more criticism it seems. MPs have criticised contracts at Uber, Deliveroo and Amazon as being unintelligible – with the House of Commons Work & Pensions Committee describing the Uber contract as “gibberish”!

It would also appear these contracts for various businesses contain unlawful clauses preventing workers from challenging their self employed status.

This will be an issue that rumbles on for quite some time to come…If you have people working for you on a self employed basis this is often still a legitimate means of resourcing in your business, however what these cases reinforce is the need for that working relationship to be legitimately one of self employment, and for the terms of any agreement to be fair and properly remunerated.
